Alzheimer’s Society and Yeo Valley Lions
Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions that affect the brain. Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common type of Dementia. The number of people living with dementia is increasing and predicted to be over a million by 2025.
Our Mission
Eight years ago, Yeo Valley Lions was recognised by the Alzheimer’s Society as a Dementia Friendly Organisation when we started funding a Monthly Activities Group. This funding support has developed over the years.
Five years ago, we started to fund Alzheimer’s Society for a fortnightly Singing for the Brain Project whilst continuing with the Activities Group. We also started an informal, drop-in, volunteer run coffee morning.
2025 began with us renewing our five-year arrangement with Singing for the Brain and the Activities Group and, in addition, supporting a new venture with the Alzheimer’s Society, a Care2Gether Group.

Groups
Activities Group
Meets on the first Tuesday of the month, at 10am to noon, at Yatton Youth Club. There is an annual programme of activities, produced with input from the Group members.
Singing for the Brain
This is designed around the principles of music therapy and singing. Sessions include social interaction, peer support, engagement and active participation. Group members rate it as “excellent” and “brilliant”. The Group meets fortnightly, every other Thursday (15th May is a marker for working this out), in the Old School Rooms in Congresbury. Refreshments from 2pm, singing from 2.30pm to 3.45pm.
Dementia Friendly Coffee Morning
Very informal, volunteer run, group that meets on the last Tuesday in the month, 10am to noon, at Yatton Youth Club. Funded by Yeo Valley Lions and supported by the Youth Club. Just drop in for free refreshments and a chat. Come and go as you please.

Care2Gether
A new Group meeting on the first Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm to 4.00pm in the Old School Rooms in Congresbury.
This is divided into a Carers Peer Support Group led by a Dementia Support Worker, and an Activities Group for people with dementia.
