14th Strawberry Lion Walk

We will be holding out 14th Strawberry Lion Challenge on Sunday 17th of May. The three routes start from Yatton Station with a leisurely 5 mile return trip to Congresbury Fishing Lakes, a 13 mile return trip to the Millennium Green at Winscombe and a 20-mile return trip to Axbridge.

The object of the event is to allow participants to raise money for their own club or charity and to contribute to the Lions' chosen beneficiary. Last year we were able to present a cheque for £2.400 to the North Somerset People First.

This year, the Lions' beneficiary is Lions Brass 4 Youth, which was established in 2008 with one band. The organisation now runs five bands, and at the starter band level instruments and books are provided free of charge. The band accepts new members of all ages with or without music experience.

The event in the past years has been well supported by the local Guides, Brownies, Sport and Youth Clubs, Charities and individual families who just want a fun day out to raise money for a good cause. All entrants will be given a snack and drinks sponsored by local businesses.

2024 Walk

Almost 80 walkers participated in the 2024 walk allowing us to present a cheque for £2200 to Yatton Girlguiding.

2023 Walk

The Kings Coronation created a very busy month in May with the result that many of our normal attendees were not able to join us, we therefore regretfully decided to cancel that event.

2022 Walk

In 2022, it was decided to support Yatton Girlguiding, who themselves have actively participated in the walk for many years. In view of recent events the Guides themselves have instead kindly suggested that the funds raised by the 2022 walk should go to the Lions Clubs International Foundation which is supporting the work being done for refugees by Lions Clubs in the countries bordering Ukraine.

2021 Walk

The 9th Annual Strawberry Lion Walk took place on the 3rd October 2021 It was a great success with 69 people walking from a number of organisations. They raised money for their own causes and also contributed to the Lions in order for them to continue supporting local charities.
