Prostate testing event success

On Saturday morning 12th April Yeo Valley Lions Club, in conjunction with Somerset Prostate Support Association, held a free Prostate Cancer Testing event at Hangstones.  This was our first such event and had only been in the planning stages for a couple of months, so we did not quite know what to expect.

 SPSA supplied the expertise and services of three phlebotomists, we supplied staffing on the day and the all-important funding (each test cost £28) - helped by some long time local business supporters of the club.  The morning was limited to 150 men (aged 40 and over) and we were fully booked three weeks beforehand, and could only take appointments in advance.

 On the morning itself, everything went off very smoothly (we only had seven 'no shows' i e 4%, which SPSA told us was average), no one fainted or was otherwise ill or indisposed and the tea, coffee and biscuits went down well!  From this example there seems to be a pent up demand for such an event, so it's almost inevitable we'll hold another.
