SUMMER 2026 ROUND UP
With such a long dry spell YVL have had a very busy summer program, supporting local events and helping them raise funds for themselves and also raising funds for our own YVL projects which support and service our local community, see below for some of the events we attended and the local causes we supported, there were many more too many to mention:
April: saw our annual golf day which raised funds to organise a free prostate cancer testing day in conjunction with Somerset Prostate Support Association later in June
May: saw the Strawberry Lion walk, organised to allow individual charities and local groups to raise money for their own organisations and splitting 50/50 with Yeo Valley Lions Club. This year was so well supported we manage to raise more money than ever before
June: During this month we supported Court De Wycke School fete by running a coconut shy, Yatton infants school at their annual carnival day by providing traffic management during the procession and running the coconut shy at the Hangstones playing field. We also supported Cleeve Tennis Club with their annual junior inter club competition, and of course ran the prostate cancer testing day, which attracted over 215 local men to attend, a few of which we know tested positive and are now receiving consultation/treatment and we wish them all a speedy recovery
July: We organised our annual Claverham beer and cider festival, which had 3 sessions all with entertainment Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening, and of course our famous BBQ ran along side. A great weekend was had by all.
August: Saw us supporting Claverham Cricket Club again by running a BBQ at their annual music event on the cricket field, another great event attended by hundreds of people throughout the local community
May - September (inc) we also used the mini bus to take residents of Somerset House out for afternoon rides once a week to local beauty spots. The mini bus is also used on a daily basis to support tte elderly with shopping trips, pick up for our monthly coffee mornings and lunch clubs
